Outline of the First Term Paper

A. Animated Feature Film: How To Train Your Dragon
B. The physics in the film How to Train Your Dragon are often exaggerated to intensify scenes and actions sequences to push the story forward in an entertaining and interesting way

Body Paragraphs:

1. Exaggerated reactions to weight:
- The Hiccup’s father flings up a metal gate (no weight) 1:03:17
- Hiccup’s father exhibits unnatural strength; he can pull apart a thick wooden cage with metal. 1:18:43
-Astrid hits hiccup to the ground, and while he is on ground, she drops the bottom of the ax's handle on him and it bounces up. 51:55

2. Reactions to Explosions
- Two characters are fighting over a shield. A dragon blasts it with fire, and they spin out of harms way when the shield is sent flying. 18:49
-Hiccup is flung off the Toothless' tail; he skips across the water like a stone. 36:59
- Toothless shoots a little fire at a smaller dragon. The fire shot goes into the little dragon but he stays in place instead of going in the direction that the flame was shot. 46:37

3. Flight
-It is impossible for some of the dragons to fly. Their bodies are not proportioned to their wing spans.
-As toothless accelerates into the sky, Astrid starts falling backward. She does not fall however, even though Toothless is accelerating at a very steep angle 53:43
-Various flight patterns would be impossible to have a rider holding on just by his hands and feet 54:00
-1:21:17 a dragon of massive weight is able to fly when it shouldn’t

Conclusion:

-The laws of physics are broken or stretched in the film
-The exaggerated physics helps make scenes more intense and action packed while moving the story along in an interesting manner.
